Disney Cruise Line

Why Disney Cruise Line? - Tips and Tricks!

Disney Cruise Line leads the way in service and entertainment on cruise ships.  They are very family friendly and have excellent children's programs onboard.  They offer several themed sailings, including Marvel, Star Wars, Halloween, and Christmas experiences.  Most sailings have pirate night and fireworks, which is very uncommon on cruise ships.  These vacations are packed with what makes Disney famous - pure Magic.  From the moment you walk on the ship and they announce your arrival, until the time you walk off the ship after its return to port, this is a vacation that you will never forget.  Disney cruises also offer world-class Broadway style shows and entertainment, as well as sail away parties, shopping, and high end dining, with options for everyone! (even my picky eater :-) )  The best part of a Disney cruise vs. another cruise line?!  The characters!!  They are everywhere on the ship - they offer meet and greet ops, they are part of the shows, it's just a truly incredible experience for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Disney Cruise Line Ships and Destinations

There are currently 4 ships in the DCL fleet, with plans to add 3 more ships by end of 2021.  (Per recent news release from D23 Expo).  These ships all offer different sailings and itineraries, and go anywhere from the Bahamas to transatlantic.

Disney Magic - The Magic is designed with families in mind with spacious staterooms and various accommodations available.  Did you know that DCL offers certain rooms with split baths as well as full size bathtubs?!  Trust me, when your kids go and play on the beach and get sand EVERYWHERE, the tub is a nice perk.  The Magic offers shorter sailings to the Bahamas, as well as to multiple ports in Europe and the Caribbean.  Some of the current entertainment offerings include Marvel day at sea, Tangled the musical, and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on board, to makeover your little prince or princess (pirate makeovers offered here too!)

Disney Dream - The Dream combines classic beauty and modern luxury.  It offers world-class entertainment, themed dining, and the AquaDuck!  The Dream has 3 pools, 3D Disney movies on board and of course fireworks at sea!  Two adults only dining options, Palo and Remy, are 2 of the best restaurants at sea and the shows and entertainment offered are simply astounding!  For the kids in your family, the Oceaneers club offers a Toy Story themed play area, as well as a replica Millennium Falcon to fly...  Staterooms are also very spacious and well appointed, and do include the split bath option discussed above.  Ports of call include the Bahamas and Disney's own private island - Castaway Cay, or as I like to call it, my own little slice of paradise :)

Disney Wonder - The Wonder is home to 11 decks offering restaurants, pools, recreation and more!  This ship was newly refurbished and looks amazing!  Some of the highlights: Tiana's place restaurant, one of the dining choices on board, Marvel Super Hero Academy - a place where kids can train to become their favorite superhero in the Oceaneer's Club, Senses Spa & Salon, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for those pirate and princess makeovers, and finally Frozen the Musical Spectacular to entertain you!  Itineraries for the Wonder include Alaska sailings, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas.

Disney Fantasy - The Disney Fantasy is the sister ship to the Disney Dream and includes very similar room types, entertainment, and dining as the Dream.  The Fantasy offers the AquaDuck waterslide as well as Aladdin the musical for entertainment and recreation options.  Ports of call include Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, and Disney's own island Castaway Cay.

Castaway Cay - Disney's Private Island

All I can say about this island is that it is AMAZING.  PARADISE.  Need I go on?  The ship is able to dock right on the island, so you can walk on and off all day.  You are on the island for a whole day and can take advantage of many activities, such as swimming, snorkeling, biking, etc.  They offer various types of excursions, including fishing, fly fishing, stingray adventures, and parasailing.  Lunch is included as part of your meals and is a BBQ style meal served on the island.  This island is only for DCL cruisers so not everyone is allowed to experience the magic.  They have adult and teen only areas, as well as areas for families to swim and sun.  There is even a splash zone for the youngest of cruisers.  There are more character interactions, as well as shopping and even a post office!  Scuttle's Cove is an on island kids club for children ages 3-12 and allows for some extra adult time while on the island.  The Teen hideout is exclusively for teens ages 13-17 and provides a tropical hangout for teens on the island.  Finally, the Pelican plunge, which is a 2400 sq ft floating platform water play area is awesome!  Waterslides into the ocean are a pretty fun experience.

Special Events

Some of the current special offerings for sailings include the following:

Star Wars day at Sea

Marvel day at Sea

Halloween on the High Seas - offered September through early November these cruises are a hauntingly good time!  Various halloween-themed deck parties, shows, drinks, and food are offered part of this cruise.

Very Merrytime Cruises - offered on various sailings during November and December, these cruises are offered on all ships in the fleet!  See a life-sized gingerbread house as well as Santa himself, along with a ton of other holiday themed shows and entertainment.

These are all on various itineraries and have several booking options.
